DIY Heart Mobile & $100 Spa Gift Card Giveaway

The month of love and friendship is upon us. Ever since our little ones came into our lives, Valentine’s Day to us has been more about family and the love we have for each other instead of just a holiday for my husband and me. I always like to include our kids in any holiday or celebration because, after all, they are the joy, love and inspiration in our lives.

This year, with a newborn in the house in addition to a very demanding toddler, I’m planning for our Valentine’s Day to be a little different. To start the day off, I’ve prepared a little craft activity for Aries, then, with my little girl’s help, we’ll make a delicious dinner for the whole family to enjoy. Finally, when the kids are safely in bed, I’ll be enjoying the rest of the night cuddling next to my husband.

To start the day off, here is a little craft to include your kiddos in. I like this because it offers the perfect opportunity to teach them about what Valentine’s Day means. Although our home is filled with love, I didn’t want the chilly, gray weather outdoors to damper our #bestfeelings. To set the mood and bring in the joyous feelings of spring, we gave the room a burst of fragrance with Glade® Splash Out™ Premium Room Spray – from the new Glade® Limited Edition Spring Collection – which reminded us that spring was just around the corner, and let’s face it, who isn’t excited for spring?!

The following craft is my favorite so far. It’s a great project to involve the kiddos on Valentine’s day or just because. It can be a great sun catcher, nursery mobile or home decoration. Hope you enjoy and get inspired to create your own.

To craft this Heart Mobile, you will need the following materials:

  • Yarn or thread
  • Kraft paper
  • Crayons (Peeled)
  • Pencil sharpener
  • Wax paper
  • Safe scissors for kids
  • Electric iron
  • A piece of branch

1) Place a 12-inch sheet of wax paper and fold it in half lengthwise. Using a pencil sharpener, shave some crayon shavings onto the wax paper. Fold the edges of the wax paper.

2.) Parents: Protect the ironing surface with kraft paper or any safe material. Cover the wax paper with another piece of kraft paper and begin ironing using light-medium heat until the wax shavings are melted. Let cool completely.

3.) Now that the waxed paper is cooled, have your children trace some hearts using a pen/pencil and help your children cut the tracings out.

4.) Once hearts are cut out,  make a hole at the top of the heart with needle and thread. Weave a piece of thread through the top of the hole and make a tight knot. Hang the hearts from a garland, or window to make perfect sun catchers.

love the idea but am I the only one who considers hanging wax in windows a bit dangerous? If in full sunlight I would imagine that it may melt, Being crayons it may stain any furnishings or flooring if it does. I remember leaving a large box of crayons on the window ledge as a child and them all melting.ReplyCancel
