I have been trying to potty train this 2 year old little girl, but no luck! What is the secret to potty training; other than patience? We have tried the “naked” session, “Undie Only” session, even “spend the whole morning on the bathroom” session. Our session included: – Step Stool – Potty Seat – Undies…
Very interesting as we are just coming up to this point with our little boy! From what I hear it tends to be easier for everyone when the child leads the way… but this can mean nappies (diapers) go on for quite a while!
We’ve had a few little tries with our little one (he’ll be 2 in July) but the most recent attempt ended with him running round the house doing little poos in different corners! The nappies are staying for now…
Good luck!

Hi Suki!
Thank you for your feedback! 🙂 I hope its so much easier when she leads the way, other than that she will still be in nappies until she is ready.
Good luck to you in potty training your little boy!
Angie
I’ve barely started trying to train my daughter but I’m going to wait until I get a little potty seat so I can do the naked thing, I have seat like the one you’re using but I think it’s too uncomfortable for them to be perched up there and its hard for them to hold things too :/

I see.. I should definitely try a different potty seat! Thank you!! I had a separate potty but seems she rather play with it!
Thanks for your thoughts and feedback!
Oh dear. Let me tell you how I did my first one…a boy…(he is now 21) . I let the babysitter do it. she handed him to me on a friday afternoon and said DON’T mess this up! gave me instructions and I did it! Now I have a 5 year old. Guess how we did it. WE LET HER decide when. She sat us down one day and said. “When I am three I will go on the big potty” and on the very day we held her third birthday party she walked in and crawled up and went on the potty. Don’t force it. I have never seen a 16 year old in a pullup~! all will be fine!

My daughter turned 2 last week and I’m proud to say she’s potty trained! During the day anyway. I put her in pull-ups at night cuz I’m still too scared but she has only woken up wet a handful of times in the last month. Anyway, we had the potty seat too when we were trying to get her to go in the beginning. But she just wouldn’t. Then I got the little potty that you can sit on the floor. When I decided to be really serious, I brought the potty out to our living room (she plays there so I figure it would be easier for her to remember). I closed all the doors to the rooms that she could hide in (this worked for me cuz she doesn’t know how to open the doors yet). Then I let her run around with out any underwear, diapers, or pants. So naked on the bottom. The hardest part was getting her to go for the first time and after that she got the concept and had just a couple accidents. It was really easy for me. I attribute that to the fact that she was really ready for it. As far as rewards, you know your daughter best, so do what you think would work best for her. We did a potty chart. And she got a sticker for each pee and 2 stickers for each poop that she did. And a treat for every 5 stickers. By sticker number 15 or so she was over it and just went without asking for reward. Good luck!
Oh, and by the way, I didn’t make a big ordeal about it. We just went about our day as normal. No extra drinks, salty foods, etc.
Hey Angie! Wow I have just realised that for some reason you haven’t been showing up in my dashboard reader. I have compared the URL from the last post showing from 2 months ago and from your recent post and nothing has changed so I wonder why that has happened? Anyhow, I am so sorry, I have just assumed you hadn’t posted in a while and seeing as I see you on fb, I knew you were OK 🙂
How gorgeous are these pics of little Aries!! Wow she has certainly grown up heaps since I have been following your blog and been friends with you. Look at her all grown up sitting on the toilet like a big girl. Don’t stress about it, she will just get it one day. When she’s ready. She won’t be going to school in diapers so don’t worry too much about it. My Ryan was 3.5 yrs old when he ‘got it’ and Jordyn was 21 months, so you really see how diverse children are.
Good luck, and try not to make her upset about it, she may rebel! 😉
Your blog has changed so much from it’s early days, it is wonderful seeing it grow and change xo
With my first, I drove myself crazy! Finally what I started doing was we would wait for a day when we didn’t have to go anywhere, and I would spend the day with him in just undies (hence a lot of cleaning!) When he would have an accident, I would take him straight to the potty and make him sit there while I cleaned up. I would just say,” when you have to go, you go on the potty, stay here while mommy cleans up.” Once I cleaned up, I would clean them up, then we would go on about our day. I didn’t make a big deal out of it. I only told them the one time per accident and that was it. And I just said it matter of factly. The next day if they didn’t seem to be catching on, I would just put it away for a few weeks. I always waited until my kids where almost three, and all of them were pretty much potty trained in one day. My last actually potty trained his self! lol Every child is different, but I think the bigger the deal you make of it, the longer it takes. Don’t believe the hype that your child HAS to be potty trained at two…From my experience, most of the parents whose kids are potty trained at two still have a lot of accidents because they don’t have the muscle control yet. Another reason to not make a big deal of it. If they truly aren’t ready you don’t’ want them to feel like they are disappointing you. Plus, if they are ready, this is the one thing you cannot FORCE them to do, so if you make a big deal about it, they may not do it just as an act of defiance…you know to feel like they are in charge of some point of their life. I’m definitely not an expert, but just telling them once as soon as the accident occurred worked magic for me…Just don’t get discouraged! You will find a method that works for you! Trust me! As James Dobson, says “she won’t walk down the aisle in a diaper!” lol I know it’s frustrating right now, but one day before you know it, you won’t even remember what it was like when she was in diapers. Good luck! Sorry for the book in you comments section! lol
