I love donuts, I mean who doesn’t. I love how pretty they can be and perfect for my “cheat day” snack.
So I baked some super easy cake donuts! Since I wanted to have a variety of flavored donuts but I didn’t want to use all the batter on three whole cake mix boxes. So, I divided the cake mix content in half.
To use only half of your cake mix box, simply measure the content on a big measuring cup or count each cup at a time. Half of the cake mix is usually 1 1/4 cup. This way, I was able to use different flavors of donuts by using only half of chocolate, strawberry and vanilla cake mixes. Divide the ingredients required and viola!
Instead of baking a cake mix cake, make donuts next time! Super easy and fun to make with the kiddos.
You will need a donut pan, I used wilton brand because the donut shape is kinda small, that ends in a perfect donut snack size!
- Bake as directed by box. If you are using only half of the cake mix, divide each ingredient needed in half. For three eggs, use 1 whole egg plus half and egg by pouring the second egg into a cup first. Then use a spoon to transfer only half a yolk and a little egg white.
- Fill the donut pan only to about less than halfway- to about 3-4 tablespoons full of mix. If you over fill the donut hole and bake it, you will end up with a donut muffin top.
- Bake for 10-15 minutes, or until toothpick comes out clean.
- Let donuts cool completely
Frosting:
– In a microwave safe bowl, pour half of a can of your favorite frosting. Microwave for 20 seconds, checking intermediately until frosting is melted and has a smooth texture.
– Carefully, dip donuts into the melted frosting and remove excess by tapping on the side of the bowl.
– Decorate with sprinkles, coconut shavings, chocolate shavings, have fun! This is the part the kids (and you!) enjoy the most.
Happy Baking!
