When Holiday Table Crafts Go Wrong, It’s So Right On

Life is messy and as a crafter; it’s even messier for me. I love involving my kids on my project ideas, as they are my inspiration to everything I do. Often times craft projects don’t exactly turn out as how I imagined them in my head, but at the end of the day — and especially during the holidays – it’s about creating memories with my kids, which is something we’ll all treasure forever!
My little girl gets so excited when we work on decorations, hand-made gifts and centerpiece crafts together — especially if the project involves paint. Our most recent project was a handmade piñata ornament with a hidden present inside. It looked quite messy but has more charm and character then anything you can find in a store.
Since piñatas run in my roots, I thought making mini piñatas filled with a present inside would be the perfect surprise for the kids. Aries cut her own strips of tissue paper, glued them to the ornament paper mache ball, and loved her creation.
While working side by side we talked about the joys of Christmas and what she was most thankful for this year. Her response was Momma, Daddy, Junius, herself, toys, Grandma and pizza! Once we finished our messy masterpieces, we put them on our sparkly tree, took a step back to enjoy the view while sipping on hot cocoa and eating an afternoon snack.
Although the piñata ornaments didn’t turn out exactly how I pictured, and even for the times our crafting activities could be considered a total fail, our family has learned that the most important piece is the experience together. My little girl will remember those “craft projects with mom” when she gets older and I hope that she will do the same with her own family in the future. Don’t worry about craft perfection because those imperfections are the best projects and the best moments of life.
