I was raised bilingual, even though my parent’s did not spoke any English at all. Thankfully, I was very young and was able to learn English very quickly during all my elementary school years. My parents don’t talk any English, but they do seem to understand it after all these years. I’m so thankful that I’m bilingual, thankful for my parent’s decisions, thankful of my Hispanic roots & culture that I will never forget.

Now with my own little family, I plan to raise my kids bilingual. I want them to at least understand Spanish and our culture as Mexican Americans. Although, we all speak English at home most of the time, we still have conversations in Spanish very often. Aries who is turning 5 years old in April, she understands some words and loves to repeat words in Spanish; she has the cutest Spanish accent. If Aries hears a word in Spanish, she wants to know what it means and I just love that she loves to learn.

We currently watch shows in Spanish with our Verizon FiOS TV Spanish package. While we watch my favorite Spanish shows like a Chavo Del Ocho, Dragon Ball in Latino or even a few favorite Novelas, I tell stories to my daughter of my most memorable moments with my sisters and she loves it. Where you raised bilingual and are you raising your kids bilingual as well? Share your thoughts.
